Coxswain Job – Wanted for our Gold Coast Whale Watching Cruises

Whale Watching, Scuba Diving, Boat Hire, Gold Coast / Aqua Adventures

Join our team – Coxswain Job

We run small boat whale watching cruises on the Gold Coast ex Runaway Bay Marina. These tours are truly special and a lot of fun. Our primary whale watching vessel is semi-inflatable (RIB) and capable to carry 8 guests plus our skipper. Visit our adventures page to find out more about our tours.

For the upcoming whale watching season, we are looking for casual Coxswains to run our 2-2.5h whale watching tours. We usually run Wednesdays to Sunday, weather depending.

This is not a fulltime role and our skippers have ideally other income sources to support them as we can’t guarantee a fixed schedule of work. Working with us, is however a lot of fun!

Unlike large whale watching vessels, our weather cancellation cut-off is around the 15 knot wind mark and 2m combined sea height depending on the specifics such as wind direction, wave frequency etc.. This is purely for comfort reason for our guests (water spray) as the vessel can easily handle worse conditions than this.

Your skill set

You must be a qualified Coxswain or higher that is confident to operate small vessels. We often have experienced large vessel skippers (Master 5 and higher) that have difficulties handling a small vessel around the seas whilst keeping everyone as comfortable as possible.

Whale watching tour experience is a must and you need to be great with customers as you will be a tour leader as well, sharing your knowledge about whales with our guests.

Finally, you are required to drive our manual 4WD and boat trailer in order to launch and retrieve our vessel. This will include reversing the trailer back into our boat yard at Runaway Bay Marina.

Coxswain Job – Work schedule

If you are rostered on, your day may start with picking up customers with our company bus (manual transmission). Tours run up to 2 times per day with customer meeting times at 9:15am and 12:15pm.

On a trip with 2 whale watching trips, your day would start at around 8:45am and end by 3:30pm. These times include the time for getting the boat ready and cleaning the vessel at the end of each trip.

Interested?

Before you email us, please make sure that you acknowledge the above outlined requirements. In summary, you must have whale watching cruise experience, are capable in operating small commercial vessels, manual driver license and confident in reversing boat trailers. On top of that you need to be a qualified Coxswain with local knowledge.

If that all works for you, please email us at matt@seathegoldcoast.com.au
